The group „Data Analytics and Signal Processing“(DSP) in the department of Photonic Networks and Systems is looking for a motivated student assistant to contribute to the analysis, design and implementation of data traffic models in optical communication networks using dedicated traffic generators hardware. What you will do
Develop features and patterns of different data traffic flows corresponding to distinct network services (video streaming, web, cloud computing, etc.) using current state-of-the-art traffic models
Perform real network traffic analysis with subsequent traffic modelling for datasets generation
Implement these models into Python scripts and deploy them on a lab testbed using modern programmable traffic generators
Prepare documentation, reports, presentations, and demonstrations
What you bring to the table
Enrolled Bachelor/Master student* in the field of electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or related fields
Excellent programming skills, preferably in Python
Excellent knowledge and understanding of time-series and time-series analysis (preferably using Python), as well as time-series modelling
Experience in the field of data engineering and data pipelines
Experience with Apache Kafka and InfluxDB is a plus
Experience of working with lab hardware is a plus
The following knowledge is an advantage:
Familiar with the software development and prototyping life cycle
Experience with software version control and Git
Fluent in English (verbal and written)
Team player with a structured way of working and able to work with little guidance

The position is initially limited to 6 months. An extension is explicitly desired
The monthly working time is 80 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
