Job Summary
***This position is primarily telework with a need to occasionally travel to attend meetings in the office. This team is currently teleworking; however, this may change in the future with notice.***
As a Leave Management Technician you will provide technical personnel support to the Human Resources Division staff and Department managers, supervisors and employees. This includes coordinating leaves of absence such as FMLA, Parental Leave, Medical Leave, Military Leave, etc., along with providing leave management services including maintaining databases, providing reports, insurance coordination, and providing quality control for Direct Care and Treatment.
Principal responsibilities/major tasks include:
- Processing leaves of absences and facilitating leave management coordination
- Serves as a contact for employees, supervisors, and managers seeking information on leaves of absences (both paid and unpaid). Facilitates leave management coordination and administers the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) so that employees are notified and DHS receives documentation
- Advise managers, supervisors, and employees on various HR inquiries;
- Completes special projects as necessary such as revising or developing new office procedures, forms and materials, tracking systems, etc.
- Serves on committees and user groups, attends seminars, conferences and training classes to provide input and expand knowledge of personnel related issues.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Human Resources Technician 2 Minimum Qualifications
1 year of experience performing paraprofessional/technical work processing FMLA in a human resources setting. Experience must demonstrate the following:
- Processing leaves of absences within software similar to PeopleSoft
- Processing requests for Family Medical Leave Act
- Knowledge of Human Resources processes and all applicable state and federal employment laws, rules, and regulations
- Ability to consistently produce accurate, quality documents
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the AFSCME, MAPE, MMA and MNA collective bargaining agreements; Commissioners and Managerial Plans; and rules and laws (i.e. FMLA, Affirmative Action and Data Practices) that affect Human Resources.
- Working knowledge of SEMA4
