Mō te Tari o te Kaitiaki Mana Tangata – About the Ombudsman
The Chief Ombudsman works with his staff to help New Zealanders in their dealings with government agencies. The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration. The Chief Ombudsman is independent and impartial, with the goal of fairness for all.
Mō tō mātou tira – About the team
The Rōpū Māori Hononga Hapori (Māori and Community Engagement team) provides external engagement and outreach across Māori, Pacific, Asian and other communities, and provides internal support and guidance for staff in Te Ao Māori capability and practice.
Mō te tūranga - About the role
The Kaiāwhina will provide key administrative support for Te Rōpū Māori Hononga Hapori and Puhara Mana Tangata (the Chief Ombudsman's Māori Panel). The role works to support the team and their work programme. You will be integral in providing strong administrative and logistical support, travel arrangements, hui arrangements and minute taking, event management, and work tracking and reporting. You will be a driving force in ensuring timelines and deadlines are met for various projects and initiatives across the team.

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Significant experience in a similar administration or programme coordination role.
  • Superior planning and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively across multiple projects and activities in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with a willingness to contribute to a constructive, positive team environment.
  • High level of integrity and discretion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori and Tikanga and/or other cultures or diverse groups is an advantage.

Depending on skills and experience the salary is expected to be between $54,388 to $71,384 with $67,985 being the mid-point.
