About the role
As a Disability Support Worker you will be assisting participants of the NDIS to achieve their NDIS goals. This role is a hands on capacity building role that ensures that the participant can have a holistic approach to bettering their life. You will work with people with a disability in achieving individual goals, dreams and aspirations and enhancing the individual’s participation and inclusion in the community. This occurs through a variety of planned, person-centred activities and the development and enhancement of independent living and social skills. You may also be involved in advocating on behalf of the people we support and providing other assistance where required.
Job Type: Casual 20-30hours per week Monday- Saturday LOCATION: Head office Bankstown
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist participants learning essential life skills
- Assist participants in making informed decisions that will assist them in sustaining current supports
- Encouraging participants to grow as individuals and achieve their desired goals
- Work with participants to identify goals and set action plans in achieving them
- Assistance in budgeting and other money handling skills
- Exploring legal responsibilities related to employment and other day to day services the participant has access to
- Transportation supporting, including learning the skills of public transport and other licenses
- Goal specific employment support including, job searching, interview skills, cover letter writing, resume writing and work trials
- Liaising with Disability Employment Support (DES) providers together to work towards employment based goals
- Safely transport participants to appropriate and relevant areas such as employment, essential appointments, experience hubs etc
Qualifications:
- Certificate III or above in relevant industry such as Community Services & Individual support or relevant experience in similar role
- Proven ability to build individuals capacity to learn new skills
- WWCC & NDISWC including a police check or willing to obtain
- Full drivers license
- Able to speak Cantonese (highly desired)
Experience: The ideal candidate will have 2 years experience in a role where building capacity was the goal. Other experience demonstrating handling complex and high pressured enviroments will be considered.
