The Team

The Mechatronics team is one of the Competence & Technology departments of TEM Solutions, the Research and Development organization for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). This group is committed to develop innovative technologies, modules and software that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers.

With the ongoing developments in physics and industry the requirements for performance of these TEM microscopes are continuously growing. Aligning well with Advanced Technology Development and several strategic collaboration partners, in our TEM Solutions department we are striving to convert the most promising technological concepts into real products - with the purpose to enable our customers to make the world cleaner, healthier and safer!

The Role

As Mechatronics Engineer you will be part of an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team and responsible for the mechatronic aspects of high-tech electron-microscope modules or sub-systems. You will work closely with a team of mechanical, electronics, software, mechatronics, dynamics, thermodynamics engineers, architects, project managers, and multidisciplinary colleagues outside R&D like sourcing, operations, and service.

You will typically be involved in 1 to 3 projects or activities in parallel. In these projects you can see your designs grow from a conceptual idea to a finished product for our customers. As linking pin within the development team, you will frequently be in contact with project dependencies throughout the organization and will interact directly on requests related to your designs. The decisions made by you and your team will have direct business impact. Your challenge will be to find solutions for technological complex problems, meeting the needs of all your different parties, combining short term goals with long term needs.

You will report directly to the manager of the Mechatronics Group within the Manage Sample R&D department.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Develop high tech mechatronic modules with cost, timing, quality, manufacturability, and serviceability in mind.
  • Collect mechatronic requirements and align solutions with relevant parties
  • Define and specify new mechatronics designs.
  • Define and carry out test plans and strategy to validate that the design is according to the requirements.
  • Steer, support and guide internal and external engineer (suppliers).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you have a suitable background and an adequate level of experience:

  • Bachelor, Master, PhD Degree or equivalent in mechanical/electrical/mechatronics engineering.
  • At least 5 years (Bachelor) or 3 years (Master) of proven experience with developing mechatronic (sub-)systems in the high-tech or equivalent industry sector.
  • Experience with developing and testing of motion control algorithms on real hardware.
  • Experience with hardware-software integration.
  • Experience with Matlab and Simulink.
  • Experience with xPC, NYCe4000, ProDrive Motion Control, Python and C++ is helpful.
