Job Description


OVERVIEW

The Deputy Managing Editor, International will lead the digital editorial team in APAC, shaping news and features coverage, acting as deputy to the Managing Editor on decision-making for International Digital, and updating the global site with fresh content on a real-time basis. The role is based in Singapore, and reports to the Managing Editor, CNBC International Digital based in London.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Form a digital news and coverage strategy on a daily and longer-term basis for CNBC.com in APAC
  • Support the Digital Managing Editor to execute upon their content strategy for CNBC.com International, driving our editorial agenda to the highest possible standard
  • Strong partnership with the Digital Managing Editor, acting as a secondary decision-maker for CNBC International on an as-needed basis, reinforcing editorial guidance provided by the Managing Editor to stakeholders both inside and outside CNBC.com, and standing ready to make unplanned, global editorial decisions
  • Consult with senior TV producers in APAC on coverage decisions during and outside of APAC market hours to ensure that CNBC.com has a complementary editorial presence across all media
  • Lead the APAC-based Digital team, made up of Editors, Correspondents, Writers, and Video Editors based in Singapore and China
  • Provide guidance and support to the line managers in your department, providing opportunities for training and career development and fostering collaborating across teams and bureaus
  • Act as a hot seater for CNBC.com, updating the site in a timely manner using strong editorial judgment and knowledge of business and financial news
  • Edit written copy and video captions with accuracy on a tight deadline
  • Coordinate with CNBC editors and producers in offices in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East
  • Write and produce stories on a variety of subjects including financial markets, business trends, economy, and economic policyOversee recruitment and training and development of the APAC Digital team
  • Add value and enhance CNBC.com content by incorporating video, story links, slideshows, graphics etc.
  • Act as a role model and ambassador for the Company’s values. Contribute to a positive newsroom culture of diversity, inclusion, and transparency, ensuring integrity is at the heart of our work.

Qualifications


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A desire to serve the readers of CNBC.com with the information they will find most interesting and useful, and to increase the size of that readership.
  • In-depth knowledge of the content and subject material covered on CNBC and a strong interest in financial markets and economics.
  • Ability to work in a team and across all departments and locations, ensuring an efficiently run web site that is 100% accurate.
  • Demonstrated self-starter, with the confidence to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced news environment.
  • Strong editing skills under tight deadlines, especially the ability to spot mistakes, errors and typos.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm in a fast-paced news environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills coupled with strong research and succinct writing skills.
  • Previous experience in updating a website, or hot seating.
  • Experience working for a leading wire service or business news website.
  • Fluency in English.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Interest in data analytics and the application of that information toward the achievement of editorial goals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of internet technologies, web design and content management environments, video editing and video asset management tools.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Knowledge of social media, especially X.
  • Extensive knowledge of the APAC region – we welcome applications from candidates based in Singapore and also candidates willing to relocate to Singapore for this position.
