Job Summary:
As a Security Guard for the Supportive Housing Initiative, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of residents and staff in the supportive housing facility. This role requires a compassionate and customer-service-oriented approach, combined with excellent security skills, to create a welcoming and secure environment for vulnerable individuals in need of housing support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety and Security: Maintain a safe and secure environment within the supportive housing facility. Conduct regular patrols, monitor security cameras, and enforce access control measures to prevent unauthorized entry.
- Resident Assistance: Assist residents with any security-related concerns or needs, and provide information on safety procedures within the facility.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations, such as medical incidents, fire alarms, or other critical incidents. Follow established emergency response protocols.
- Conflict Resolution: Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to address any disputes or disturbances in a calm and respectful manner. Foster a peaceful and respectful atmosphere within the facility.
- Access Control: Monitor access points and ensure that only authorized residents, staff, and visitors enter the supportive housing facility. Register new residents and visitors following established procedures.
- Building Relationships: Build positive relationships with residents and staff, promoting trust and open communication. Be a point of contact for residents' security concerns and questions.
- Resource Referral: Provide information and referrals to supportive services available to residents, such as counseling, social services, and community resources.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, activities, and interactions within the facility. Prepare written reports as required.
- Collaborative Efforts: Collaborate with housing staff, social workers, and other support services to create a cohesive and supportive environment for residents.
- Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to handle crisis situations, including individuals experiencing mental health challenges or other emergencies, with empathy and sensitivity.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in security, customer service, or related fields is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with residents and staff in a supportive and respectful manner.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and conflict resolution skills.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with vulnerable individuals.
- Physical fitness and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Familiarity with access control systems and security procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of local supportive services and resources for vulnerable populations is advantageous.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3-6 months
Salary: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
