Main Purpose & Function
The Cashier Receptionist is responsible for cashiering work of a routine nature in connection with the operation of are creation centre. This position provides information and assistance to patrons regarding recreation programs and policies, events, schedules, rentals and fees; receives, records and takes payments; and maintains related clerical records.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides information and assistance to customers regarding a wide variety of recreation programs, facilitypolicies, practices and regulations, registration procedures, events, schedules, rentals and fees
  • Works efficiently in a fast paced and high volume site which includes a pool, fitness centre, ice rink andcommunity centre
  • Receives tickets, cash, cheques, and credit card payments and makes change for customers
  • Answers questions from the public and handles customer escalations appropriately
  • Maintains minor clerical records, and enters program registrations and memberships into computer databases
  • Compiles non-complex statistical data and performs routine word processing tasks as required
  • Balances cash, records sales and admissions, and secures monies and cash drawers daily
  • Experience working as a cashier at a site with a pool is preferred
  • Assists and orients auxiliary staff as required
  • Performs related work as required

The successful candidate must be able to work a variety of schedules including mornings, afternoons, evenings and on weekends. The current schedule includes evenings and weekend shifts, but the schedule is subject to change based on operational requirements.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of grade 11 supplemented by some experience in a capacity dealing with the public and some cashier experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the recreation programs and services provided and of the practices, regulations and procedures applicable to the work.
  • Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of cashiering methods and practices.
  • Ability to multi-task and focus despite constant interruptions
  • Ability to communicate and problem solve in a tactful and diplomatic manner as well as understand the needs of a diverse client group
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to receive payments, make change, issue tickets, receipts and reimbursements, balance cash and prepare cash reports and floats.
  • Ability to operate common office equipment including a computer terminal and related office application software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of SAP, ActiveNet, POS and photo ID software considered an asset.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Ability to assist and orient other staff.
  • Ability to maintain minor clerical records, to compile non-complex statistical data and to perform incidental word processing tasks related to the work.

The City’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
